The amount of the salt should be determined by the person’s weight, according to Dr David Jockers. This is  amount for a standard size bathtub that will probably hold 25-30 gallons of water.

Measurement for Epsom salt:

  • Individuals between 60-100 lbs: 1 cup
  • Individuals between 100-150 lbs: 1½ cups
  • Children under 60 lbs: ½ cup
  • Individuals between 150-200 lbs: 2 cups
  • For every 50 lb more—add an additional ½ cup of salts

You can add only Epsom salt or together with Himalayan salt while taking this bath, . It is recommended to start only with Epsom salt if you have no detox experience and you are doing this for the first time.

Note:

If you have open wounds or burns, cardiovascular disease, or you are pregnant you should not take this bath. Consult your doctor before trying any kind of detox if you are on long-term medication.

First thing you need to do is to cleanse and rinse out the bathtub to make sure that there is no dirt or mold in it. Than fill the bathtub with warm water – 37o Celcius (or 97o Fahrenheit), Because it is warm enough to dissolve both the salts. If you have high blood pressure it is not recommended to use hot water!

Avoid than using  any bath additives such as shampoos, oils, or soaps. If you want to do it before. You should not rinse after the salt bath, just towel dry.

It is recommended to have a healthy and light meal before doing this detox bath and you will not get dizzy at the end, from an empty stomach or low sugar.

Stay hydrated,  drink a lot of water before and after the bath throughout the day. While you are taking the bath, you should take a bottle of water and drink it. Some music will help you relax!

Soak for at least 40 minutes to absorb all the benefits from the salts.

Take precaution when coming out of the bath. Lot of detoxification activities going on in your body, so we recommend you to drain the water and get out slowly.

You may notice that after taking the salt bath the color of the water is changed into a milky color. It depends on your health, but this is because of the toxins being drawn out from the body. When the individuals are smokers or are exposed to industrial toxins, the water may be brownish.

How often you take this salt bath depends on you. You can take it once to three times a week if you can handle it.
