These two salts have amazing properties each, and combining them in one salt bath, will create highly beneficial detox bath. And what’s even more, it has amazing healing and soothing properties, it is highly efficient and it is cheap and safe to use.

Epsom Salt

This is not really a salt. It is actually a compound of mineral which is contained in water and it is rich in sulfate and magnesium. Its appearance is very similar to big salt crystals and that is the reason because it is called a salt. Its name originates from the town of Epsom in Surrey, England where this salt was first distilled.

There are three categories of this salt depending on its use – for food, for personal care, and for agriculture. So you need to pay attention which salt you are buying.

The biggest organ for detoxification in our body is the skin. So making an Epsom salt bath is highly efficient in detoxification of the body, due to the two minerals it contains – sulfate and magnesium which have the ability to extract the dangerous chemical and toxins through the skin like a magnet. After the toxins are eliminated, the skin absorbs these minerals and thus increases the levels of sulfate and magnesium in the body.

These two essential minerals are also contained in food, but at low amounts, and making an Epsom salt bath is proved to boost the levels of magnesium and it does not have any negative effects.

Magnesium is of high significance and it is included in more than hundred body’s functions and it is also an important contributor in about 300 biochemical reactions controlled by enzymes. Due to the fact that a lot of people have a lack of magnesium, soaking in an Epsom salt bath can protect and improve their health.

Himalayan salt

Himalayan salt is probably the oldest salt on Earth and it is the purest and uncontaminated salt. You can replace your regular salt for cooking with Himalayan salt because it is also cheaper. Before you prepare your bath, you may need to leave the Epsom salt chunks in water during the night, in order to dissolve nicely.

Himalayan salt contains a lot of beneficial minerals just as the other natural salts have. Because it has pink color it will make your bath even more appealing. You will feel relaxed, energized and you will enjoy this Himalayan salt bath.

Your skin will get all the salts and minerals that the Himalayan salt releases in the warm water. It offers amazing healing properties because it is abundant in natural minerals and the combination of warm water.

Instructions for a great Salt Detox Bath

The usual amount of added salt in a bath is 2 cups of Epsom salt and more for a bigger bath, and the recommended time is between 12 to 15 minutes. But on the other hand, the leading writer for ‘the Truth about Cancer’ – Dr. David Jockers recommends different amounts for each person and a longer period of time. He suggests that the weight should regulate the amount of salt.

Here are the recommended measurements for salt for a normal bath of about 25-30 gallons of water.

The amount of Epsom salt for each weight:

  • Children below 60lbs – ½ cup
  • People between 60-100 lbs – 1 cup
  • People between 100-150 lbs – 1 ½ cup
  • People between 150-200 lbs – 2 cups
  • Add ½ cup of Epsom salt for every 50 lb.

This type of bath can be prepared with just Epsom salt, or you can combine it also with Himalayan salt. In case you are preparing this bath for the first time, we recommend you to only use Epsom salt, leaving the Himalayan salt for some other time.

Or if you wish, you can put the measured amount of Epsom salt and add ½ cup of Himalayan salt in warm water.

Important to mention:

Here are some precautions measures that you need to apply before you prepare the amazing detoxifying salt bath:

This bath is not recommended for people with cardiovascular disease (without the presence of a healthcare professional), for people with open burns or wounds and for pregnant women. In case you are taking any prescribed medication, first consult your doctor before doing any type of detoxification on your own.

Take some time off your daily activities and relax and free your mind on this miraculous salt bath.

First, you make sure that your bathtub is clean of mold and dirt everywhere around it and inside.

Then turn on the water to fill it with water which has about 37 degrees Celsius, and this temperature is just enough for your body not to make an extra effort to regulate the temperature. And it is just right for the salts to dissolve well. You can use a bath thermometer to check the temperature. You should not use hot water, and it is bad for you if you are suffering from high blood pressure.

Avoid bath additives such as oils, shampoos, and soaps. If you must wash your hair or body with a shampoo, do it before you make the salt bath. It is also not recommended to rinse, just use a towel.

Avoid consuming greasy and unhealthy food and take some healthy meal before the detox salt bath, so that you do not feel dizzy during the salt bath, due to an empty stomach or reduced sugar.

Keep your body hydrated – it is essential to consume a lot of water and fluids when you do a detoxifying salt bath. You can also drink water during bath time.

It is recommended to stay in the salt bath for a minimum of 40 minutes to achieve the most detoxifying properties, and your skin to get the most minerals.

Keep in mind that this is a detox bath, so be careful when you are getting out because you might feel a little bit dizzy. Do not hurry, take your time. Be careful not to fall down and hold on to something when you are getting out.

The water may obtain a milky color due to all the toxins that are thrown out from your body, and the color depends on your overall health and toxins.

If you are a smoker, the water may get a brownish color due to the industrial toxins from the cigarettes.

You can do this detox salt bath once to up to three times a week if you like and enjoy the benefits of it.
